Emoji, Emoji everywhere!

I’m a 43-year-old male, so to say I’m well-versed in things like emojis and animated GIFs is utterly false! To me, they have always been a waste of time and unnecessary effort. But, emojis are part of our general vocabulary these days. Heck, even my parents, who are in their 70s, have gotten into using emojis.

In the past several months, I have come to the realization that Emoji can be a very powerful tool, especially in education. I highly recommend Tony Vincent’s presentation called “An Emoji Education” from ISTE 2018. Check it out here.

We all know that it’s super easy to use emoji on your phone, but a little more challenging on desktop. However, thanks to an update of the Chrome browser, emojis are now built right in.

Whenever you want to use emojis, just right-click on a text field, click on Emoji.

The emoji picker will pop up. Just like on mobile, the emojis are categorized for ease of finding them.

Click on whatever emoji you want, and it will be added.

That’s great, but what if I want to use emoji outside of Chrome? Simple. Use your preferred platform’s quick access key. For Windows, it’s Windows key + semicolon. For macOS, it’s Command + Control + Spacebar. Note that you will need to have a fairly modern version of the OS for this to work.

What do you think?
